endogenic systems are systems that DON'T form from trauma. meaning that an endo system could have trauma, but that's not the reason for them being a system. it can be from stress, from a pre-existing diagnosis for something else, or -- like you said -- just by sheer will (thoughtforms or tulpas).

I will step in and say that no, OSDD and DID aren't just formed from trauma. it's definitely one of the most common and most known causes, but if it was solely formed from just trauma, it would be a traumatic disorder. rather, they're disassociative disorders, meaning that they can form from any sort of overwhelming experience. it can be stress, trauma, or literally ANYTHING that's so overwhelming it produces symptoms that are seen as the criteria for either OSDD or DID.

so... yeah. endos are basically systems that didn't form from trauma. they might have trauma, but it's not the reason why they formed. they could very well have OSDD or DID, but it's just not from trauma specifically. hope that helps, somewhat. - captain

I would also like to note that technically it is possible to be "born with" OSDD or DID, since your genetics can make you more likely to disassociate which makes you more likely to develop the disorders in question. you can't just have headmates right off the bat, but you CAN develop them earlier than most if your genetics make you more likely for that to happen. - captain

Also i still have a hard time seeing how something else could cause multiple personalities, i dont know why the brain would split in respond to stress

It's pretty easy; your body gets stressed out, your brain triggers a response that forms alters to toss that stress or stressful memory onto someone else, but once you process that stress they're still kind of there.

And yeah, you'd be right; DID is classified as different "moods" that the whole person experiences (usually with at least 1 or 2 distinct moods, but I digress), but not just endogenics are their own people.

For example, OSDD-1b systems. They are very much their own people (I should know, we ARE a 1b system), but the thing that makes them different from DID is that there's no amnesia (meaning, we can remember who switched and stuff like that). - captain

Sometimes, that stress can be overwhelming. It may not be dangerous in a sense, but if it's too much for that person to handle, it can easily make the brain trigger a response to ease that overwhelmed feeling. And depending on just how bad that stress is, the brain's response might be as severe as splitting. - captain
