A plural term coined to state that a member of a system has a different ethnicity internally than the body they inhabit. It was intended to acknowledge the system member's identity and its potential importance while making it clear that the member and their body still has any privileges of their physical-world ethnicity and should not invade spaces made for physical-bodied POC. It was coined by Fallen Hearts Galaxy on Tumblr[1], who formerly went by The Lumin Hearts. The unofficial flag for parethnic was designed by Frost System on Tumblr[2].
An alternative term for this experience is Exoethnic.
Controversy[]
Many systems of color have spoken out against this term, and against claiming an ethnicity that an individual system member's body did not have, [3] [4] [5][6]saying that is harmful to systems of color and people of color in general. The coiner of the term, Fallen Hearts Galaxy, has defended the term, saying that it is not racist, and that their parethnic members are genuinely Japanese, just not Earth Japanese.[7]

- Álla-ethnic: Parethnic alters who believe that they are literally their internal ethnicity, whether due to their soul coming from a different body or due to being an introject. Includes parethnic alters who claim to be transitioning their body to match their internal race/desire to do so[9]. A plural-specific version of transracial identity. Similar to said term, it is highly controversial and not generally accepted as a possible or non-offensive identity by the plural community[10].
