A stress split is a split that specifically occurs due to stress, and not trauma (as is most common with splits, especially at a young age.) This type of split can theoretically occur in any type of system, but may be more common in trauma-caused and stressgenic systems. Systems that experience stress splits frequently have dissociative identity disorder or another dissociative disorder. The term was popularized by Freya System[1], a tulpamancer who has polyfragmented DID, and was likely coined by them.
